Sidi Abdul-Khaaliq, a street artist from New York CITY, found himself inside jail after allegedly steAling 3 crayons from an art supply store in soho. like many OTHER young, poor black kids like SIDI, he wasn't able to make bail. IT WAS SET AT $7.500.
"bail art" was born AFTER HEARING sidi's STORY. IT turned into a personal project of mine and made it my mission to bail him out. Actually, I should say i made it my mission to have sidi draw himself out of jail.
And that's exactly what happened. I asked Sidi to make art from the inside so I could go pick it up and sell it on the outside. (yes, i went to riker's island.)
within 4 weeks the drawings sold out and set him free. > freesidi.com
